Self Guided Walks around Quedgeley

Walk 1

Although most people are conversant with the Quedgeley area. I wonder how many know how very close we are to the peace and tranquillity of the countryside.

Here is a very easy walk for all the family, which requires no special equipment (only water on a hot day), and is suitable for most people (wheelchairs/pushchairs not recommended).

The walk is approx 2.25 miles long and should take around 1-1/4 hours.

If you park in Tesco’s car park, and walk down Severnvale drive to the second Zebra crossing (Past Weavers Road). Cross here and follow the footpath directly in front of you.  You will go behind the houses and into a small wooded area. Stop here and listen you will be surprised. Turn right at the second bridge.

At the end of the path you will come to Elmore Lane West. Turn left and cross the canal bridge and turn right up the canal towpath.

At the next canal crossing bridge turn left up Riversmead Farm Lane.

In approx 150 yards before the second overhanging Oak tree you will see a footpath to your right. Follow the path keeping to the left between 2 red and white poles. The first stile you come to can be a little tricky.

At the next gate, you are entering Hempsted Village. To your left you will see a building with 2 white garage doors. Pass this building on the right hand side and you will see a gate marked Severn Way.

At the next gate the path goes to the right and takes you to the banks of the River Severn.

You will now follow the path through 3 fields. (Just past the second gate stop and look around at the views and listen) At the end of the fields is a gate with an unusual mechanism to open. Follow the path keeping to the right, through a small wooded area.

At the next stile turn left up Elmore Lane West to the canal. Cross the bridge and turn right through the wooden gate.

Follow the path, cross the bridge and turn left. Keep to the left of the path which will lead back to Severnvale Drive. Cross the crossing and turn left back to Tesco car park.
